Reading Festival In The Rain

Camping at the Reading Festival in the rain can be both a challenge and an adventure. Today saw a downpour of rain in the Reading and surrounding areas, some say this is a tradition of the event, whilst the unpredictable British weather can add an extra layer of excitement to the experience, (if you say so) but it also requires some preparation to make sure you stay comfortable and enjoy the festival.

Here are a few tips for camping in the rain at Reading Festival:

1. Waterproof Your Gear

  • Tent: Make sure your tent is waterproof and has a solid rainfly. Double-check for any leaks before you head out.
  • Groundsheet: Lay down an extra tarp or groundsheet underneath your tent to prevent moisture from seeping in.
  • Seal Your Stuff: Use waterproof bags or bin liners to protect your clothes, sleeping bag, and other gear.

2. Dress for the Weather

  • Waterproof Clothing: Bring a waterproof jacket, trousers, and boots to stay dry when walking around the festival site.
  • Layer Up: The rain can make it feel cooler, so pack warm layers that you can easily add or remove.

3. Be Prepared for Mud

  • Wellies or Waterproof Boots: Mud is almost inevitable in the rain, so wellies or sturdy waterproof boots are essential.
  • Ground Protection: Bring a small foldable stool or something to sit on that keeps you off the wet ground.

4. Keep Spirits High

  • Embrace the Adventure: Rain at a festival can create a sense of camaraderie among campers. Embrace the atmosphere, enjoy the music, and make the most of it!
  • Stay Positive: Bring along games or entertainment for your tent in case you need to stay inside during heavier downpours.

5. Plan for Drying Off

  • Towels: Bring quick-drying towels to help dry off after being out in the rain.
  • Dry Clothes: Keep a set of dry clothes sealed in a waterproof bag for sleeping or relaxing in your tent.

While the rain may make things a bit more challenging, it can also add to the festival’s charm. With the right gear and mindset, camping at Reading Festival in the rain can still be an unforgettable experience!
